Kihoy Jewellery Making Workshops: The Cape Town Chapter
Kihoy Workshops: The Cape Town Chapter
A year ago, I started teaching jewellery making. I never imagined that a year later, I would be taking a Kihoy workshop all the way to Cape Town.
What began as a way of sharing the techniques and processes I had spent years developing slowly became something much more meaningful.
For my first international Kihoy workshop, I had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful group of creatives in Cape Town and teaching them how to create chandelier earrings. Every person in the room brought their own artistic perspective, curiosity and energy to the process.
It was especially humbling to teach people who are accomplished artists in their own fields. What made the experience even more special was how naturally the workshop became a space for conversation, creativity and connection.
A heartfelt thank you to Winifred, who made this entire workshop possible. From bringing everyone together to organising the details so thoughtfully, she was instrumental in making Kihoy’s first international workshop such a memorable experience.
Cape Town reminded me of something I have come to understand more deeply through teaching: a technique does not become less valuable when you share it. It travels, evolves and takes on a new character in someone else’s hands.
The jewellery may have been the craft we came together to learn, but the real takeaway was much bigger — connection, creativity and the simple joy of making something with your own hands.
Kihoy Workshops — Chapter: Cape Town.
A beautiful first step beyond home, and one I will remember for a very long time.
